Reaching a Remarkable Milestone

Veronica gets misty-eyed as she speaks of Lucas’s* graduation and the moment he was given the honor of being first escort, signifying his high academic ranking among his classmates. She has been one of Lucas’s caregivers since he was a toddler and has seen him overcome adversity.

Eighteen-year-old Lucas has a diagnosis of Down Syndrome and was welcomed to FHC-Latacunga as a newborn. Through your love and support, it has been such a joy to watch him grow and develop over the years. And it’s been especially gratifying celebrating this major achievement. He is a 2023 high school graduate, and we could not be prouder of his hard work and success!

“2023

High School Graduate”

He is beloved by all his caregivers, known for his sweet, loving nature and servant’s heart as he is always looking for an opportunity to help others. He enjoys swinging on the playground, likes music and dragon movies, and loves riding up and down the escalators at the mall. He has also proven to be an adept kitchen assistant at his school’s cooking program, where he had the opportunity to sell the lunches he helped prepare to fellow students.

What is next for Lucas now that he has completed this major milestone? His teachers and caregivers are exploring various options that will best utilize his strengths. Veronica hopes he will continue honing and acquiring skills in the kitchen, and perhaps he will find employment as a kitchen assistant. Whatever his future holds, we trust God’s Word holds true for Lucas: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV).

After Lucas’s graduation ceremony, a party was held at the home in Latacunga to honor him. Lucas felt so loved and appreciated as he danced and shared with his teachers, caregivers, and friends. It is because of your support that Lucas has been able to attend a school for children with unique needs and that activities like graduation parties can be realized so the children know how special they are. Thank you for investing in children like Lucas, ensuring they are raised in a loving and caring environment, where they have bright futures ahead of them!
