I have things to do, you know!

"I didn't go to school today," shouted Luis*, as I entered the house.

"Oh really? Why?" I asked, very interested.

"Well… I have things to do, you know," he responded. A playful smile spread across his face as he ran out to play.

It turned out he just had a doctor's appointment that morning, and his tías (caregivers) were getting ready to go with him. But this is a perfect example of Luis's personality. He’s a very smart and curious kiddo who loves asking questions and always has tons of energy. He also has a bit of sass, which makes him all the more endearing to his tías and friends.

Luis was almost two years old when he was welcomed to For His Children.

At first, it was difficult for him to adapt to his new house and routines. He was shy and sensitive, but with the constant love and patience of his tías (caregivers), he began to thrive.

Over the next three years, Luis went through significant changes. He learned to ride a bike and mastered fine motor skills. He became more independent and learned to navigate his feelings with empathy for others. Luis had the opportunity to start first grade at a local school, gaining social skills and giving him the chance to ask all the questions he could think of! He also was able to experience God’s love for him and attend Sunday School every weekend.

When we first received the news about an adoptive family being assigned to Luis, it was hard to contain our tears. We had been praying and working hard on his case, and we knew this was an answer from God. His parents were even more excited.

As they waited to meet Luis for the first time, their nerves and emotion were evident. But that was quickly dispelled by Luis bursting into the room with his charisma, asking them all types of questions, between their hugs and tears.

Luis's story is proof of how you are changing lives. Your generosity provides children like Luis with the care, opportunities, and love they deserve. Thank you for making life-changing journeys possible!
